Getting Older

We're getting older, you and I, my pretty little cat.
Me in my seventies, you your teens - I'm well aware of that.
Our eyes aren't quite so blue and bright, our brains a little slow.
But still we like to get around the places that we know.
We like our lives, we have our fun, and still we have each other.
I've lost some human friends and yes, we’ve lost your furry brother.
You're sleeping more than ever, and I too get tired too fast.
We're both a little slower than we were, back in the past.
You'll get to old age faster than a human would, dear cat.
I might end up outliving you - I hate to think of that.
But thank you for the love and joy you've brought me at this age.
Let's both enjoy our later years. It's just … our peaceful stage.
